Happy Earth Day! I fully believe #everydayisearthday, but if you’re looking for some ways to get extra cozy with our planet today, I’ve got you! We are intimately connected with the world around us. When we make environmentally friendly swaps, we are protecting the earth and also protecting our health!
Here are 11 things you can start doing today, and every day, to protect our planet.
1. Eat more plants
This is one of the easiest things you can do to have a positive impact on the environment. Embrace meatless Monday’s and look for more ways to incorporate more plants into your diet!
2. Shop local and support your local farmers
Reduce the amount of time your food has to travel to get to you! This is great for the environment and also better for your health because you’re getting fresher produce.
3. Use reef safe sunscreen
I talk all about sunscreen in this post and give my recommendations! Sunscreen has a huge impact on our environment. Protect your skin and our oceans.
4. Buy organic
Keep our environment, and your body, free from toxic pesticides and fertilizers. Conventional farming has been linked to loss of biodiversity and biodiversity. The use of pesticides and synthetic fertilizers pollutes our water.
5. Don’t participate in fast fashion
Make conscious choices when you are buying new clothes. The fast fashion industry is a huge environmental issue, contributing to carbon dioxide emissions, chemical use and water pollution, textile waste, and garment transportation.
6. Use a reusable water bottle and straw!
We all know that one-time use plastics are not good for our planet. Most of these one-time plastics end up in landfills or dumps or the ocean. Purchase a reusable water bottle to cut down your plastic use. My favorites are from Hydroflask and Healthy Human Life.
7. Use non-toxic cleaning products
Switching to non-toxic cleaning products dramatically reduces the amount of chemicals you come into contact with. When these products go down our drains on our homes, many of them aren’t caught by wastewater treatment centers and end up in our bodies of water, which contributes to ecological problems.
8. Invest in some reusable ziplock bags
I bought some stasher bags years ago and I’ve never looked back! These things are a total game changer and help eliminate single use plastic.
9. Walk and ride your bike more
This will also bring you more joy! Look for alternative ways to get to where you want to go instead of hopping in your car all the time. Fewer cars on the road means healthier air quality.
10. Plant more bee-loving flowers
Our global bee population is in rapid decline. Bees are important pollinators, helping plants reproduce. Make your yard a bee oasis by planting native and bee-friendly plants, while staying away from pesticides of course.
11. Connect with nature
The more time we spend immersed in the beauty of this planet, the more we will do to protect it! Plan a hike, go for a swim in a lake or the ocean or get your hands dirty and plant your own veggies!
I’d love to hear, how are you celebrating Earth Day today and every day?
