It’s no secret that I absolutely adore traveling and I travel fairly often. I wanted to share a few of my favorite travel hacks, and hopefully give you some ideas and tricks for your next adventure.
1. Turn on private browsing when booking flights
I just learned how to turn on private browsing, going into incognito mode, a few weeks ago. Have you ever visited a site to book a flight, decided to wait, only to find that the next day the rate went up? Websites can store your information and cookies and use this to up your rates. If you look at flights in private or incognito mode, they can’t store your info. Use private browsing to ensure you’re getting the best rate on your flights!
2. Bring something for the flight crew
I learned this one from my mama and my sister who are both flight attendants. Whenever I have the opportunity to do a small act of kindness, I jump on it! Flights attendants absolutely love it when you bring them something small, I usually bring a box of chocolates and since I’ve been living in Germany, it’s usually marzipan. I had it to the flight attendant as soon as I board the plane, and tell them it’s for them and thank them for serving us today. They are usually surprised and super grateful and don’t be surprised if they keep trying to bring you drinks or snacks! It’s such a small thing for me to bring a little something with me, and it definitely brightens their day! Good vibes all around.
3. My BFFL: the lacrosse ball
I am a foam rolling fanatic, but I also like to travel light. Packing a bulky foam roller is usually a no go for me. I bought a lacrosse ball a couple of years ago and I always travel with it. It’s amazing for rolling out sore muscles or loosening your lower back/hips after a long day of traveling and sitting. I usually use mine up against a wall but you can use it on the floor as well. YouTube has great “how to” videos.
4. Bring a reusable water bottle
I always travel with a refillable water bottle. I make sure I empty it before I go through security, and then I fill it up on the other side. Most airports have water fountains, and you can also check online to see if tap water is safe to drink in the area you are traveling. When you keep a water bottle on you, it encourages you to drink more water! This is even more important when you are flying because your body dehydrates quicker in airplanes. It also reduces plastic waste if you’re not continuously purchasing single use water bottles during your trip. This tip is good for your body and our planet!
5. Download google maps offline
I just learned this travel hacks this year as well. Did you know google maps had this feature? This is amazing and a lifesaver when you are traveling somewhere and you don’t have data. All you have to do is connect to WiFi and download maps of the city. They are then saved offline and you can navigate with ease. Google maps are one of the reasons I feel so confident when I travel solo. I remember traveling back in the day and having to use paper maps and asking people for directions. There is definitely beauty in disconnecting and getting lost in a city, but I definitely feel more confident when I am on my own and know that I have google maps in my pocket!
What are your travel hacks? I’d love to hear in the comments!
